Igbinovia loses again

Like they finished last week, all the Nigerians players at the ITF West African circuit which ends tommorrow have crashed out before the final thus leaving the foreigners to take the centre stage before the home crowd at the National Stadium, Lagos. Nigeriasports.com can report.

Jonathan Igbinovia, who was thought to have learnt his lesson after last week's defeat still fell to his Ghanaian conqueror, 21-year old Henry Adjei-Darko when sent him packing this morning  2-1 at 6/4, 4/6, 7/6(3-1).

While Adjei-Darko survived Igbinovia for the final ticket, Spain-based Komlavi Loglo of the neighbouring Togo was busy demolising Nigeria's Toyin Dairoon in the Centre Court  whom he humbled 4/6, 7/6(18-16), 6/3 to set the stage for a Ghana Vs Togo finals.

The unprecedented tennis crowd that had gathered to cheer Dairo on the Centre Court suddenly shifted to court two with the hope of cheering Igbinovia to victory but that never came. The spectators abandoned hard hitting Dairo soon after he lost the tie break. No sooner had they all moved to court two in their bid to cheer Igbinovia that they saw their new choice candidate also crumbling.

Igbinovia, who was more like a showbiz man on the court rather a tennis player later told Nigeriasports.com  that he put in all his best, victory. "I played by best, yet he (Henry Adjei-Darko) clinched the points". The lanky Igbinovia also said that the defeat was frustrating as he claimed that the Ghanaian has never taken a game off him during their training in the US.The Nigerian also blamed the line judges over their alleged bad calls, which he claimed distabilised him for some time.
"The line judges were biased with their faulty calls", he claimed.

The 21-year old Ghanaian told nigeriasports.com in a chat that he knew that Igbinovia was a hard hitting player and employed all he could to check him."I knew that he (Jonathan Igbinovia) was going to be hard on me this time, but I remained focused", "Its been a very two weeks of tennis, I just want to take break for a week before travelling back to the US to reswume training and prepare for other tournaments, and hopefully gather points that will enahance his standing in the ATP circuit".

The Ghanaian has however set two and a half years to work hard to earn enough points to launch himself big into the ATP. "I've given up schooling for now to concentrqte on my tennis. School would come later after I must have made it big in tennis", he said.

The Ghanaian and Igbinovia have however resumed their double partnership, and are in the final to be decided tomorrow, after handing a two straight set defeat  6/4, 6/3 against the pair of Candy Idoko and Shehu of Nigeria to confirm their final ticket.

They  will slugging out with Romano Frantzen and Floris Kilian of South Africa in tomorrow's final, the South Africans had defeated d Abdulmumuni Babalola and Ibukun Ilesanmi in two straqight sets of 6/3, 6/3 in their semifinal tie.
