Veteran Chess player praises sponsors

LAGOS - One of the veterans listed to participate in this year’s Nigeria Breweries Open Chess Championship billed for the Indoor Hall of National Stadium, Lagos Joshua Bamidele, has praised the effort of the Anglo-Dutch beverage company aimed at encouraging the development of Chess in Nigeria, reports nigeriasports.com In a chat with nigeriasports at the stadium Thursday, Bamidele expressed joy over the progress of the game in the country in recent years. According to him, the competitions like the one sponsored by NBL would help the young talents grow and engender greater awareness among children for international competitions. He stated that he is not participating to win in the tournament but “just to have fun” and “enjoy the game of CHESS ones again after so many years.” Bamedele told nigeriasports.com that the inclusion of ‘Veterans event’ in this year’s edition, would turnout to be best competition ever hosted NBL. “I think this year’s edition will be the best because we have a lot of veterans registered for the competition. Again the young players will enjoy the old hands in the game. I’m not playing for the money involve but to show the young talented ones how sweet the game of CHESS could be,” he said.
