Ejiogu decries dearth of Handball

LAGOS - Ex- Handball international Nicolas Ejiogu, has tasked the Handball Federation of Nigeria, (HFN) to organise youth competitions to enable them select new players that should replace the older ones national team, reports nigeriasports.com

Ejiogu who spoke to nigeriasports in Lagos stated that apart from replacing the aged players in the national team, the HFN should also develop interest in the game among the youth population .

To do this, he recommends competitions among Primary and Secondary schools in the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.

“For Handball to grow in this country, I think it’s time for the federation to move the sport to schools and also within the states. Task all the state handball secretaries to organise at least one competition within the local governments so that the children will know handball,” he told nigeriasports.com

He decried the diminishing influence of Handball among “Nigeria’s youth circle” saying, “this is an embarrassing development that should be arrested by the federation.”
