Okoro Sisters thrill tennis fans

Tennis fans where thrilled treated to a rare exhibition of talents and guts at the centre court of the prestigeous Lagos tennis club sunday when the Okoro sisters Nnena and Chika Okoro faced each other in the finals of the girls Under-16 event of the Prime Interface sponsored Junior Tennis Championship.

In a fashion reminiscent of the of the 2002 all Williams sisters final of the Wimbledon  championship. The younger chika never left anyone in doubt that she was out for the title as she fought back from a 1-4 to take the first game 7-5. Cheered on by the teaming tennis fans especially the kids she gallantly fought on to take the second set 6-2.

A cheerful Chika later told Nigeriasports.com, " I am really, really happy to have won", admitting that she played a better game and deserve to win. Engineer Bertram Okoro, their father who watched the gruelling encounter between his siblings from the stands was not suprised at the outcome. "Chika is a fighter anyday, she comes comes under when under pressure" the evidently happy Okoro said of his victorious daughters.

Engineer Okoro who is a building what could turn out as Nigeria's version of the popular Williams sisters in America. He had two boys and two girls in the junior championship. His first son, Obinna Okoro won the National Milo future championship title in 1996 aged 9.

Nnena 14 is the second child, and Chika 12 who in addition to winning the U-12, U-14, was also carted home the most outstanding girl player trophy of the championship, his boys Ikenna and Ejike did not do as well as the girls, Ikenna was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the championship.

The Ibadan based Engineer Okoro, later told Nigeriasport.com they where rushing home to mark  the 5th birthday of last son Ekele whom he said has already started playing tennis too.

In the Boys under U-16 category,the winner Chimezie Onyejiaka  had an easy ride as stroked to a first set 6-0 win  over his opponent Samuel Omoile. Samuel put up a brave fight in the set but still fell 6-7 to a resilient Chimezie.
