Foreign scouts swoop on CAFA tournament

The 1st edition of the confederation of African football academy (CAFA) tournament taking place at the national stadium Lagos will come to a close today, nigeriasports.com understands.

The tournament which is featuring a parade of the best legs in the U-17 age grade within the west African sub-region, has already attracted a number of football agents from Africa and Europe and according to findings of nigeriasports.com, some players from the ongoing tournament might as well be on their way abroad.

Amongst the agents identified by nigeriasports.com includes Peter Knabel, the technical director of FC Basel football school coming all the way from Switzerland.

Enodi H. Hornsby a FIFA agent from Ghana as well as Alain Dutreuil from France, an already acclaimed partner of pepsi, the major sponsor of the CAFA tournament. Jacques Montounoy from Belgium was also sited with the Sierra Leonean team, Sierra Rangers.

Speaking to nigeriasports.com on Thursday, the director of the Pepsi football academy, host of the CAFA tournament, Kashimawo Laloko, the project is aimed at nurturing fresh legs that can in future replace the aging players at various levels.

“This tournament is the first of its kind in Nigeria and with an executive in place, we will ensure that it becomes an annual competition contested across the West African sub-region”.

Some of the countries represented by some notable academies on the sub-region at the Tournament includes, Coted’lvoire, Benin Republic, Sierra Leone, Ghana, Nigeria and Sudan as special participating country.

The Damilola Taylor foundation as well as the Pepsi football academy amalgamated centres from the East, North and south are the other participants.
