CBN raises Open money

LAGOS - THE Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced an increased of over 50 percent in total sponsorship budget, from a previous (N1,727million to N2,395million) for this year’s Senior Tennis Open slated to run in Lagos from August 12 - 21, reports nigeriasports.com

Deacon M. Okunfolami, head human resource of the banking regulatory body said at a media conference to announce the 26TH CBN Senior Open Championships said they decided to increase the sponsorship money to make it more attractive for players and hopefully, give it an international outlook.

“With this substantial increase, it is our hope that with time, this competition will match other International Tennis Opens.” President of Nigeria Tennis Federation, Alhaji Sani Ndanusa believes the consistent sponsorship of tennis by the CBN and other bodies led Nigerian players to the 8th All Africa Games to win valuable gold medals.

“You will recall that last year’s champion Sunday Maku, led the Nigeria team to our best All Africa Games record by winning three gold medals, one silver and one bronze.

He also led Davis Cup team to defeat such countries as Senegal 3-0, Gabon 3-0, San Marinho 3-0 and Mali 3-0 to qualify for the Euro-Africa Group 3.”
