Onikeke gets new opponent, date for title

Fatai Onikeke
The commonwealth title fight of Fatai Onikeke is back on track, promoter of the show, Remi Aboderin of Freels and threels promotion has revealed to nigeriasports.com.

According to Aboderin the thrice postponed bout has now been fixed for the 10th of September. The venue remains Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

“The state government is committed to making the dream of Onikeke come true and so they gave us the date which I think will certainly be feasible”, he told Nigeriasports.com

The show tagged ‘Battle in the Harmony City’ has suffered postponement after postponement because of the Kwara state government non release of funds having accepted to host the bout in which Onikeke an indigene of the state will be fighting.

Meanwhile there will be a new opponent for Onikeke; the Africa welterweight champion and he is Hassan Matumla of Tanzania.

Matumla, the Tanzanian champion replaces Ghanaian Ossie Duran who has since moved up in weight and claimed the light middle weight title there by making the Welterweight belt vacant.

Matumla has a record of 8-2 and 7KOs. Aboderin has however been making efforts to contact Matumla

“We know little or nothing about him and don’t even know how to contact him, but we will keep trying”

On the other hand Onikeke is leaving no stone unturned as he has been preparing hard for the upcoming fight.

“I have been training and I don’t care who the opponent is, I just want to be the commonwealth champion and look to the world title”, He said.
