Victor Ezeji speaks![]() Nigeriasports.com: You just returned from a trip to South Africa. What really happened there? Victor Ezeji: When I got to South Africa, the club just resumed and were still on pre-season training so there was no time for us to do any trial games and I had to come back. NS: But this is rather conflicting because reports said the club said you were not good enough. VE: I wouldn’t know if the club said that because what happened was that we were just running all day. We never played any ball. It was just on the last day the coaches made every one play a game of eighteen against eighteen so I don’t know how the club judged me not to be good enough. NS: You returned and immediately rejoined your club, Dolphin? VE: I don’t have any other job to do but football and right now I have a contract with Dolphin so I must respect it. If I don’t, the entire name I have made for my self will be thrown away. What would I be doing somewhere else when I have a job to do in Port Harcourt? NS: So why do players who go on trials refuse to come back even when their deals fall through? VE: It all depends on their mentality. Some think its time for them to take a time out but for me I didn’t think that was right. NS: In your last league game against Kwara, you played very well but unfortunately you were taken off injured. VE: Its like that some times. Win some lose some, play some, get injured in some. But what happened that day is that I finally got injured in the first half and I couldn’t continue. I was not happy about it because I really wanted to play. I saw myself posing a major threat to the defenders but they were doing every thing to bring me down and I had no protection from the referee. NS: How bad is it? VE: At first I thought I will need an x-ray to check the extent of the damage, but after consulting with the club’s medical crew, they though otherwise. Its getting better even though I am yet to start training. NS: There were violent scenes in Ilorin just after the match. You were in there. How did you feel while the carnage was on? VE: It was something else. I will honestly tell you this is one of the things the NFA and everyone else is trying to avoid but it is very difficult because it seems hooliganism has eaten deep into our people. NS: You have not scored in the league since the game against Berger in Kaduna? VE: I’ll score in my next game. In whatever match I play next I’ll score because that is what I think of in every game I play.
