Ghanaian minister sure of Black Stars
GHANA’s Sports Minister, Honourable Kwadwo Bwah-Wiredu has expressed confidence, the Black Stars (the Ghanaian national soccer side) would pick one of five-Africa-spots for the Germany 2006 FIFA World Cup finals, nigeriasports.com reports
Hon Bwah-Wiredu, who was in Abuja, Nigeria recently on facilities inspection tour of the Abuja National Stadium, (which was used to host the last All Africa Games) on the directive of the President John Kurfour, as the West Africa country prepares to host the 2008 Nations Cup and the 2011 All Africa Games, told nigeriasports.com the Black Stars are currently doing well in their qualifying matches. “We are not doing badly, and hopefully, we would be in Germany for the 2006 World Cup finals. There are lots of improvements in the team. We are currently having four points from three matches so far,” he told nigeriasports.com in Abuja. Impressed by the facilities at the Abuja National Stadium, the Ghanaian Sports Minister said the Ghanaian government was planning on hosting a “befitting Games and has decided to study what the Nigerians did right when they hosted the last Games. I am impressed by this edifice and I think, it makes a good statement about Africa.” Bwah-Wiredu told nigeriasports.com that President Kurfour would provide “all the needed encouragement to the Black Stars to make their World Cup debut in Germany 2006.” Ghana, four times winners of the Africa Nations Cup have not qualified for the FIFA World Cup finals.
