Ghana storms Nigeria for 2011 AAG

The Accra stadium
Ghanaian sports minister, Kwadwo Bwah-Wiredu has outlined his country’s plan to bid for the 2011 All Africa Games. Nigeriasports.com can report.

Bwah-Wiredu over the weekend paid an inspection visit to the Abuja National Stadium facilities that hosted the recent 8th All Africa Games last year.

The visit over the weekend was his second for the same purpose.

He confided in Nigeriasports.com that he was directed to embark on the inspection visit by the Ghanaian President, John Kuffour.

Stressing that he has been holding talks with the firm that constructed the Abuja National Stadium project on a possible way of contracting the project to the company.

The Sports Minister said the project would be constructed at either Sekondi or Tamale.

Noting that Sekondi is the favourite place for the finals of the game while the Kumasi and Accra stadium would be expanded towards the hosting of the forthcoming African Cup of Nations in 2008.

He was emphatic when he told nigeriasports.com that the construction for the type of Abuja National Stadium in Ghana was not towards the staging of the continental soccer competition.

Impressed with the facilities he has seen for the umpteenth time at the Abuja National Stadium, Bwah-Wiredu said he would be glad if the Ghanaian government is given the hosting right to stage the continental games which would be the 10th the series.

He was accompanied on the inspection visit by his Nigerian counterpart, Musa Mohammed and top functionaries of the sports ministry.
