Ogujugba boost Handball

German based handball star, Ogujugba Nwagbara has promised to send developmental materials to enhance the grassroots development of the sport in the country.

Ogujugba, whose singular act earned the country the ticket to the Portugal World Championship, told Nigeriasports.com in Abuja that he would want the developmental materials to be distributed among Primary schools in the country.

“A big vacuum is now existing in the senior category of the national team. There is the need to cover it up, which is why I would to concentrate in the grassroots development. I hope to sending those developmental materials to Primary schools is the best way to begin the grassroots development of the sports”, he said in a chat with Nigeriasports.com in Abuja.

The bulky Ogujugba stated that the youths in the country if properly groomed and encouraged, would rule the world in the sport.

“We were discovered as junior players before some of us matured to the senior category. There are lots of talents in the country which the coaches should scout for”, he said.

Ogujugba, who combines playing with coaching at HSG Shoenbuch Club; a division three side in Germany, said he was sure of the country bouncing back to the world top position if the sport is developed properly in the cadre level.

He stated the injury sustained forced him into coaching, otherwise, “I should still have been playing competitive handball, because my contemporaries are still very active”.

Explaining on the developmental materials, Ogujugba said he has started talks with some firms in Germany and in other parts of the world where he was known in the sports for contribution.

“I will have a lot of international support in the grassroots development of handball in Nigeria”, he emphasised.
