British soldiers storm Mobil Track and Field

No fewer than six Nigerian British soldiers have arrived for this year’s Mobil Track and Field Championship, which started this morning at Abuja National Stadium, Abuja. Nigeriasports.com can report.

John Osazuwa, a Hammer thrower leads the pack of the athletes that comprised four men and two female who have made their names in their various events before joining the British Army.

Others in the team are Lee Okoroafor, Decathlon; Tony Ogbeta, 100 metres; and Musa Audu; a quarter miler.

The ladies are Hajarat Yusuf-Abujo and Nkiru Anu-Ihenme for 400m and 100m respectively.

“Our being enlisted in the British Army does not mean that we will not honour the national call”, the athletes told nigeriasports.com in Abuja today.

Apart from Osaazuwa in the throw event, who would face a Herculean task in making the set mark of 82m as required by the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, other imported British soldiers may not face much task in their respective events.

“My current personal best in 65.66m established during the recent 8th All Africa Games in Abuja, and I don’t see how I can make the difference over night. The most important thing is to use the trial to improve on my performance”, Osazuwa, who arrive Abuja this morning along side his team mates told nigeriasports.com this afternoon.

Osazuwa however stated that he would strive hard to be in the country’s team to Athens Olympics next month.
