Sunshine Queens want league shield

Following an impressive start to the 2004 female league season where they drew in Port Harcourt against Rivers Angels Sports Club, Chief Coach of Sunshine Queens of Akure, Micheal Fabunmi says he is very optimistic that his side will go all the way as they push for the league shield.

Fabunmi told nigeriasports.com that he had no doubt in his mind that Sunshine Queens will qualify for the Super six and go ahead to win the League this season.

“We are prepared for that and that is our target and I assure all our fans that we must win it.”

“There will surely be changes in female soccer this year and this is an assurance not just me running my mouth.”

The Chief Coach said his confidence stems from the fact that the Akure State Government has been in support of the side ever since the 2004 campaign began.

“The Government have shown that they are really interested in the growth of female soccer in the state this year.”

“Even the wife of the governor is interested in the team so it is enough that we have a backbone to rest on in our quest for the title, and based on that we have a focus and a target which is the Super Six.”
Sunshine Queens currently top the table with seven points from three matches ahead of clubs like Pelican Stars, Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels.
