Falcons Team B resumes camping

Falcons GoalKeeper, Lizzy Johnson
Following the tight fixture schedule that has seen the NFA have to prosecute the Athens 2004 Olympic games, the U-19 World Cup and the African Women Championship, another set of Falcons, referred to as the Team B have resumed training at the National Stadium, Lagos ahead of their African Women Championship qualifying match against Senegal.

NFA board member, Ayo Omidiran told nigeriasports.com that the NFA was pushed to forming this team because their was no way the Falcons could play the qualifiers since they are already in Germany preparing for the Olympics.

“We also toyed with the idea of the U-19 side prosecuting the qualifiers but they have their own U-19 elimination games at the same time so we had to form a third Falcons team with a sole task of qualifying Nigeria for the Championship while the main team is at the Olympic Games.”

The NFA board member said players for the Falcons team B are a collection of those dropped from the Falcons Olympic bound team and the U-19 side.

League Champions, Delta Queens of ASaba top the list of invited players with 8, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt have 7 while FCT Queens of Abuja have 6.

Alhaja Omidiran would not be drawn into any controversy regarding which team will play the African Women Championship since the Falcons Team A would have been back and rested from the Olympics at the time of the Championship.

“Well, all I can say for now is that we will select the outstanding ones from the Team B to join up with those that return from the Olympics.”

National U-17 coach, Godwin Izilien will handle the team and will be assisted by Eucharia Uche who played for the Falcons in the 1991 and 1995 World Cups
