Sex scandal in female U-19 camp

Barely three months after female U-19 team opened camp ahead of the 2004 U-19 World Cup, nigeriasports.com have uncovered a troubling case of sexual molestation from the Chief Coach of the side which may just tear the perceived peace in the team apart.

One of the victims of this dastardly act told nigeriasports.com in tears that she was tired of the whole situation in camp where the Coach wants to sleep with virtually all the girls with a promise to retain them in the team.

“I am tired of the whole thing and I want to be dropped from the team. I did not beg to be invited and if I am deemed not good enough, let them drop me, but I am not going to have anything to do with the coach sexually in a bid to get a place in the team.”

Nigeriasports.com investigations reveal that the whole thing started in May during the last sports festival just after Felix Ibe-Ukwu, also known as Gabowski was announced as new coach of the team.

“The same day the NFA unveiled him to the press he called me and said I should get close to him so he can give me favour at the right time,” a midfielder, still with the team told nigeriasports.com.

“When I asked what he meant by that he just smiled and said I will understand very soon and since we got into camp a day does not pass by without him calling for me and asking me to have sex with him.”

Another case involved a Moslem girl from a club based in the north who was forced, though unsuccessfully by coach Ibe to perform the dastardly act.

“He kept on asking me to do it with him so I would not be dropped but I insisted that apart from the fact that my religion would not accept it, I could not do such with a man who is not my husband.”

“One evening I was praying in my room and he sneaked in and grabbed me from behind, and after a struggle that lasted more than five minutes that had him begging me all through to accept, he left disappointed.”

“When I heard my name amongst the list of dropped players the next day I was not surprised and I am not angry with him. Let God judge him the way he knows best.”

A chequered sexual past

Coach Felix Ibe has not been new to controversy, as he has been enmeshed in them in his chequered coaching past.

At Rivers Angels where he worked as Chief Coach for the past four seasons, Felix Ibe had on more than one occasion been accused of forcing rookie players to have sex with him in exchange for club contracts and playing time even though, club chairman, Larry Eze most times tried to downplay such stories so as not to cause a scandal.

“We know Gabowski very well,” an ex Rivers Angels player told nigeriasports.com “And I am sincerely not surprised by all this.”

“Didn’t the NFA know his sexual past?” I just hope none of those small girls get pregnant.”

“More than fifteen girls have a story to tell about him in this camp and if any body thinks this is not true they can investigate it, because it is no more news that he drops who does not say yes and leaves those who give in or at least who he feels will succumb later.” One of the ladies told nigeriasports.com
