female league review

It is still sad times for Rivers Angels Sports Club of Port Harcourt as they are yet to win a match or even score after three games in the female league.

Last weekend, at their home ground, the Liberation stadium, Port Harcourt, they put up another miserable outing against Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa in a match they should have won if they had their shooting boots on.

The Port Harcourt side was buoyed with the inclusion of three newly cleared players- Lwarencia Nnadieto, Jacinta Onuoha and Captain of Cameroon’s National Team, Anong Bernadette Zang, but they still could not put any foot right as the difference between a highly motivated side and one that are hungry and neglected showed clearly on the day.

The girls from Yenagoa playing without three of their regulars in the National team, Faith Ikidi, Sabi Akudo and Gift Otuwe nevertheless possessed am awesome strike force of Rosemary Okezie a.k.a. afara, and Chioma John, while newly signed on FCT keeper, Funsho alake provided over from the rear.

The Bayelsa State Sports Commissioner, Ebitimi Angbare was also present at the Stadium and he told nigeriasports.com shortly after the game that he was around to psyche the girls to victory as his state government will leave nothing to chance as the girls go for their first league title.

After 90 minutes scores remained scoreless and it was the Port Harcourt girls who were the luckier of the two sides as they had keeper Lucky Atu to thank for rescuing them on more than two occasions.

Pelican Stars draw in Benin

Pelican Stars blame referee

Even though they got a goaless draw in Benin against Inneh Queens, Pelican Stars players and officials insist they would have won if they had better officiating.

“The referee made sure he did not see anything good in any of our forays and even disallowed a good goal we scored,” a Pelican stars player told nigeriasports.com.

Ani Oku-ITa, the team manager of the club, would not drag himself into such controversies as he express joy that they got a point on the road.

“Only the referee can tell why he did some of the things he did so we will not argue over that. However it was a good result.”

“We had to be careful in the match to avoid a penalty against us or the match officials ignoring an offside call in our opponents favour, but the result is okay for us”
